The BruxRelief system is a wearable headband incorporating patent-pending sensors that connect with an app on a dental patient's smartphone. These sensors detect the activity of the temporalis muscle caused by the clenching and grinding behaviors associated with bruxism. "More than 90% of bruxism patients go undiagnosed," said Brock Predovich, CEO and founder of Bravrr. A typical BruxRelief assessment involves the patient wearing the headband for three nights in the comfort of their own home. The data is recorded to the smartphone app providing both the patient and clinician with a clear picture of the frequency and duration of unconscious temporalis muscle contractions associated with bruxism behavior.
"Patients rarely acknowledge that they have a bruxism disorder as they are not acutely aware of their clenching/grinding behavior," added Dr. Salierno. Future iterations of the device will seek to include a biofeedback mechanism.
