Cooperation aims to help cut the childhood cancer death rate 50% by 2030.
FORT MYERS, Fla., Oct. 12, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bridge To A Cure Foundation announces that it has moved to align with Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN). This arrangement adds weight to the global childhood cancer research community, helping to accelerate the pace of breakthroughs to cures that save children from brain tumors.
By optimizing the resources and competencies of the two organizations, Bridge To A Cure Foundation will work to influence nonprofits, childhood cancer research institutions and consortia, as well as government agencies and legislators to adopt CBTN's unique open science data-sharing approach, cited by the National Cancer Institute as a model for its $500 million, 10-year Childhood Cancer Data Initiative.
"When we lost my six-year-old granddaughter Clara Ely to a form of brain cancer, I knew I had to find out why there wasn't a cure — and do something about it," explains Bridge To A Cure Foundation President Robert Martin. "Since founding Bridge To A Cure in 2017, we've presented the case for building a robust national database, driving the use of machine learning (AI) to accelerate data processing, and advocating for greater collaboration to accelerate scientific discovery. Building our alliance with Children's Brain Tumor Network is a powerful next step to ensure we make the finish line of reducing childhood cancer deaths 50% by 2030."
To formalize the alignment, Bridge To A Cure Foundation has set up the Bridge To A Cure-CBTN Fund and provided an initial $50,000 grant to CBTN through the new fund. This investment will support data processing and open science operations at CBTN. Additionally, Martin recently joined the CBTN Executive Board and will contribute strategic expertise to the organization.
