The Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry, a McAllister Towing company, has remained committed to providing as much service as is practical for passengers. Recognizing that customers may be resource-challenged during this time, the ferry company has held its rates at 2019 levels.

Essential business have taken advantage of the resource, as the company reports via their official Facebook page that they’ve had the opportunity to assist a number of essential local businesses deliver goods and services, such as Shade Trees Nursery, a wholesale nursery based in Jamesport, New York, and Rex Lumber Company, “one of the largest wholesale tropical and domestic hardwood distributors…on the Eastern Seaboard,” according to the company’s website.

Of special note, the ferry had the opportunity to assist Alice Glass and the Charlestown Face Shield Project deliver reusable face shields to front line medical workers throughout the Tri-state area. According to a Facebook post published May 5, 2020, the deliveries amounted to 3,325 face shields distributed to facilities such as Stony Brook University Hospital, Lincoln Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, and many others.

As part of their ongoing response to the situation, the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry continues its implementation of heightened protocols to protect the safety of its employees and passengers; whether in vehicles, as walk-ons or those entrusting the ferry with freight transports.

Additionally, the company has suspended peak pricing for vehicles for the period of May 15 through June 30, 2020.

As the company continues to closely monitor and quickly implement the recommendations of all federal, state and local health authorities, it encourages passengers to visit to review regularly updated advisories and confirm times.
