As part of the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act passed on March 27th, the US government is providing a Recovery Rebate check to all Americans, including expats, who earn up to $75,000 per individual ($150,000 for married couples filing jointly). Above these thresholds, the assistance amount is slowly phased out.
To qualify for the Recovery Rebate check, expats have to have a US social security number, and be up to date with their US tax filing from abroad (it's mandatory for all US citizens and green card holders to file US taxes, even those living abroad).
The Recovery Rebate is worth $1,200 for an individual filer, or $2,400 for a married couple, plus $500 per dependent child under the age of 17.
