FAIRFIELD, Conn., Dec. 7, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- British Swim School, the nation's leading "learn to swim" franchise company, is excited to announce the opening of its Fairfield County location — the brand's very first location in the great state of Connecticut.
Owner Michael Petrollese is eager to begin teaching students of all ages the signature survival skills and basic stroke development for which British Swim School is known.
"There is an absolute need for swimming instruction in this area. I discovered the lack of opportunities within my own family. A close cousin had a hard time finding instruction for her child. The few swim schools that were available had long waitlists. She had to travel 40 minutes into New York to find appropriate swim lessons," said Michael Petrollese, owner of British Swim School of Fairfield County. "I don't want anyone in Fairfield County to have to go to that extreme to find proper swim instruction. We will now be that resource this area has been lacking for far too long."
After 30 years working in corporate America, when Michael was offered an early retirement package last year, he jumped at the chance — but it wasn't about not working anymore. He saw it as an opportunity to do something more meaningful with his time.
A good friend of his owns a British Swim School location in New York City Metro, and Michael was impressed with the difference the owner was able to make in that community. Ultimately, it was something Michael wanted to emulate and provide to families in Fairfield County.
"This is such an important service to bring to the area to help local families keep kids safe," adds Michael. "During the recent pandemic, backyard pools sales jumped 30 to 40 percent. That means a lot more pools in people's backyards, which gives more justification for an aquatic program like British Swim School."
"We are thrilled to be expanding into Connecticut. Fairfield County has been underserved, with a lack of formal swimming instruction," said Ashley Gundlach, British Swim School President. "I'm excited to bring Michael into the British Swim School franchise family to fill the void."
British Swim School, a premier swim school franchise, launched in England in 1981. It was then brought to the United States and Canada and has expanded to more than 215 schools and growing.
Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88 percent among children who are most at risk for accidental death by drowning. British Swim School of Fairfield County will teach water safety and survival first and swim stroke development second. Students are placed in classes based on skill level.
British Swim School of Fairfield County Recently launched in Norwalk, CT. Swim lessons are currently scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at the Courtyard by Marriott located at 474 Main Ave. Additional locations in Norwalk and Danbury will open soon.
