Brooklyn Hospital Center Achieves Immediate Results After Renovating Dining Facilities
Brooklyn, NY. (PRWEB) July 22, 2013 -- The Brooklyn Hospital Center collaborated with Metz Culinary Management to completely renovate its servery and dining facilities this past June and the initial results are overwhelmingly positive. The hospital’s dining facility has experienced a 14% increase in transactions and 22% increase in the average check. The main renovation took four weeks, during which Metz continued to operate at full capacity.
According to Metz, this tangible positive feedback to the renovations is attributed to fresher and healthier food stations. Many of the meals are prepared right in front of dining guests and the cafeteria meets New York City’s Healthy Foods Initiative, which aims to create a healthier food environment in New York City hospitals.
“Well-prepared and healthy food options are essential for our guests’ culinary experience and quality of life,” said John Boyle, District Manager at Metz Culinary Management’s Health Care Division. “New and healthier entrees at The Brooklyn Hospital Center has elevated satisfaction in our food options and the numbers have backed that up so far.”
Brooklyn Hospital Center’s renovation project was a complete overhaul of the dining facilities, which were dated and in need of more than a facelift. The renovation consisted of two projects over the course of the past year.
For the first renovation project, Metz Culinary Management installed its signature upscale coffee bar, the “InterMetzo Café,” in an underutilized space above the main lobby. The second and main renovation of the servery and cafeteria occurred over a four week time period in June 2013. The dining facilities were completely remodeled, including new floors, walls, ceiling, cooking equipment, furniture and the introduction of several fresh and healthy food stations in the cafeteria.
New food options include the “Bravo” station where custom meals are cooked to order right in front of the guests. There is also a deli station that offers a mix of fresh toppings, select meats and cheeses, tuna, egg and chicken salad and an assortment of freshly baked breads, rolls and wraps. Everything is made to order and heated in a Turbo Chef Oven for hot sandwiches on demand. Made-to-order Italian specialties include hand-prepared stromboli and calzones, fresh pasta dishes and fresh dough pizzas cooked to perfection.
The challenging part of the project for Metz Culinary Management was to construct a temporary space while renovations took place. Hospitals follow a strict protocol of procedures for renovation projects. The entire area was roped off and walls were built to seal off the construction. A temporary dining space was created offering everything the original space did, including a grill station, fryer and deli.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center services an area of 1.2 million people in Brooklyn, NY and has over 2,500 employees. It had a total operating budget of $384 million in 2012.
