Award Will Fund Two Cornerstone Kiosks to Boost Downtown Wayfinding Infrastructure
BRUNSWICK, Md., June 28, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Brunswick Main Street is thrilled to announce it is one of twenty-five winners, out of six hundred applicants, for the 2023 Q1 T-Mobile Hometown Grant award. This program is part of T-Mobile's five-year, $25 million commitment announced in April 2021 to bring 5G to rural America, open hundreds of new stores, and support economic development in small towns.
Brunswick Main Street's $39,000 award will be used to purchase two kiosks to provide lighted, non-digital signage in a historically-appropriate style for Brunswick's turn-of-the-twentieth century downtown. One kiosk will be placed next to the Brunswick train station, a former B & O Railroad depot designed by architect Ephraim Francis Baldwin that was constructed in 1891 and is now served by MARC commuter rail. The second kiosk will be installed in Square Corner Park, a public square and frequent spot for community events located at a main intersection.
The four-sided kiosks will offer wayfinding, business, and community event information to visitors and residents using the high-traffic corridor between Brunswick's historic downtown and nearby river and trail amenities, including the C & O Canal National Historic Park. The kiosks are custom made by Cornerstone Kiosks out of Long Beach, California. Installation is expected to take place in late fall 2023.
Carmen Hilton, Program Manager for Brunswick Main Street, expressed her gratitude to T-Mobile "for supporting, and sharing, our vision of a more connected, vibrant downtown community. These gorgeous wayfinding kiosks will guide residents and visitors to our natural resources and other downtown services as they navigate our historic district and river and canal areas. They'll play a big role in keeping our downtown economy healthy and our city's heart vital."
The public is invited to attend the grant award ceremony on July 28th, 2023 at 7:00pm at Square Corner Park (1 East Potomac Street, Brunswick, MD). There will be brief remarks and a check exchange followed by live music. Brunswick's signature dessert, college ice, will be offered for free while supplies last.
