Softcat aims to help businesses develop a plan, secure the supply chain and prioritise actions with a new strategy guide

Leading IT provider, Softcat, has created a new guide focused on the importance of establishing a strong cyber security strategy. In the newly released guide, Softcat’s cyber security experts, including Chief Technologist, Adam Louca, and Security Consultant, Alexander Lewis, navigate businesses through cyber security assessments and solutions by sharing their knowledge and expertise.

IT security in any business, large or small, means a continuous to-do list, and to make meaningful progress, Adam Louca points out how prioritising actions is vital. “I like to think of it as setting the rules of the game,” the chief technologist says, “you need to know how to play before you start.” In the guide, he emphasises how companies should be prioritising their procedures in a way that suits their individual business type.

Security consultant Alexander Lewis goes on to outline the next steps in the process, which is to develop a concrete plan. “The aim is to craft a plan that you can really hang your hat off,” he explains, “a set of real actions that lead to real outcomes.”

The guide explains the requirement of understanding a business’s cyber threats landscape while demonstrating the value in being realistic about the speed of change that a company is capable of. Businesses will learn how to reduce cyber vulnerability by combining the necessary processes, policies, governance, technology and people to establish a clear cyber security strategy with the following steps:

  • Prioritising security actions – the first step towards improving computer security
  • Developing a tangible plan – creating a structure to be able to make progress
  • Securing the supply chain – working with customers and suppliers to tighten up data sharing
