Housed both in an app and online, this digital solution to our current challenges is a platform that allows Tour Creators, without leaving their home, to share and monetize their knowledge via self-guided tours.
With a mission to better connect people and place, husband and wife team Alexina and Brian Alonso founded Built Story. Brian, a Cuban-American who grew up around his family's single-location department store, housed in a historic downtown Miami building, has always felt a passion for the stories of buildings and neighborhoods. With the novel coronavirus COVID-19 bringing the in-person tour guide business to a halt, urgency to roll out Built Story increased enormously. Built Story, in partnership with Miami-based Creative Propulsion Labs, is doing just that.
Using the Built Story platform online, Tour Creators build their self-guided tours by adding text, photos, audio or video at each of the tour stops they create. Always free to register, build and publish tours, the platform allows Tour Creators room to design each tour as they wish.
Tour Takers then view the available tours in their area using their phone and the Built Story app, which is built on Google Maps. Customers receive adaptive directions between stops. Self-guided and contactless, Built Story allows Tour Takers to explore their cities and towns in a new way, while observing social distancing measures, and learning from the Tour Creator as they walk or bike or drive to each of the predesigned tour stops.
A revenue share, Tour Creators earn almost 50% of the published tour's price. The Built Story Early Adopter program grants the first 200 Tour Creators benefits including an additional 10% in revenue for the first 12 months, a badge by their display name and free consultation: all to help make money from home in spite of the coronavirus.
