The laws and regulations on e-cigarettes around the world are changing. Recently, Hong Kong has banned vapes completely, while the United Arab Emirates has started to allow sale of e-cigarettes and vaping devices. If one is planning a trip this year and wants to bring a vape device, it would be better check out the local laws of the destination before leaving. Europe
Vaping in the UK is permitted. The UK is a strong supporter of e-cigarettes and one of the most progressive countries in the world in their views towards e-cigarettes. Generally speaking, vaping is allowed wherever smoking is allowed in the UK, and vape stores can be found in almost every town and city.

Like Britain, France also allows e-cigarettes. This is a country competing with the UK for the largest number of vapers in Europe. One can vape safely wherever smoking is allowed in France. However, under the latest laws, the use of e-cigarettes on public transport or in areas where there are children is prohibited.

Germany allows the use of e-cigarettes. If there is one European country where e-cigarettes are booming, it is Germany. Germany's vaping industry grew by 40% in Germany in 2018 and will continue to grow, with profits reaching nearly 500 million Euros in 2019.

E-cigarettes are also allowed in Italy, where there are a large number of vapers. However, at the end of 2017, some nasty tax laws were introduced, making e-cigarettes more expensive than cigarettes. Vaping is allowed anywhere smoking is allowed, but with many vape stores starting to close, buying vaping device locally may become more difficult.

Vaping in Spain is legal, but banned wherever smoking is also not allowed, including enclosed public spaces and directly outside some public spaces like hospitals. There are also restrictions on buying e-liquids, so dedicated shops cannot be found here, and there are online sales restrictions too.

Asia
In mainland China, there are no restrictions on the sales and use of vape products, but regulators began looking into the issue last year. However, in Hong Kong, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China, vaping is illegal.

Japan allows the use of e-cigarettes, but has banned the use of E-cigarettes containing nicotine since 2010. Since Japan has no regulations on non-nicotine e-cigarettes, they are sold to both adults and minors.

E-cigarettes are banned in Singapore, where all vape products are illegal to buy, sell or use. Offenders are liable on conviction to a maximum fine of $5,000.

The sale and use of e-cigarettes is legal in South Korea, but is heavily taxed. One can easily buy vaping products but they are very expensive.

E-cigarettes are banned in Thailand. The maximum penalty for vaping is ten years in prison.

The UAE allows the sale of e-cigarettes and vaping devices under their latest regulations. Manufacturers will be allowed to sell the battery-powered products as long as they meet the new standards and carry health warnings similar to those of traditional cigarettes.

Vaping is currently permitted in the Philippines, although the Philippine Medical Association has recommended to different city governments to broaden their public places and transportation smoking bans to include e-cigarettes.

Vaping is allowed in Indonesia. However, from July 1st, 2018, the government will be imposing a 57% excess tax on all e-liquids containing traces of tobacco.

North America
In general, vaping is allowed in the United States, but where one can vape is different. Some states ban e-cigarettes indoors while some leave it to the discretion of the business owner and some have no bans at all.

Canada has no restrictions on e-cigarettes, which are 100% legal nationwide. There are some regional variations on where one can vape. For example, Vancouver bans use of e-cigarettes where smoking is prohibited. Toronto bans use of e-cigarettes in city work spaces.

Oceania
In Australia, vaping is not banned, but the use of e-liquids containing nicotine is. Some states prohibit the purchase of e-cigarettes, but others don't. Overall, it's a pretty confusing picture, but Australia is not a good place for those who vape juices with nicotine.

Unlike its neighbors, New Zealand has been much more progressive in its attitude toward e-cigarettes, and has effectively legalized e-cigarettes and nicotine vaping products. Vape devices can be bought easily in New Zealand as vape shops are plentiful there.
