Buena Vista University ROTC Cadet Attends George C. Marshall Conference
Storm Lake, Iowa (PRWEB) March 24, 2016 -- Buena Vista University (BVU) ROTC Cadet Brandy Fowler, a senior public administration and political science major from Spirit Lake, was selected to attend the 2016 George C. Marshall Awards and Leadership Conference in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., Feb. 22-24.
Fowler was selected by Professor of Military Science Lt. Col. Ethan Dial of Iowa State University AROTC, based on her top academic, social and athletic abilities, along with her proven leadership in the Iowa State Army ROTC Battalion. She is the first cadet from the BVU Army ROTC program to be chosen to attend this elite conference, where she joined 275 top ROTC cadets from across the country and 30 West Point cadets.
At the conference, Fowler participated in numerous discussions, seminars and lectures focused on shaping the U.S. military's training and education program. Among those who presented at the conference were Army and Defense experts on critical defense and geopolitical matters; numerous general officers, current and retired; and former U.S. Army Chiefs of Staff.
“It is an honor to be chosen for this award and to attend this impressive event,” said Fowler. “It was inspiring to hear from the three- and four-star generals who spoke to us and shared how they started in their military careers. Their advice was to lead by character, and while their messages were similar, they each had different styles of leadership, different stores and different presentation approaches that made their own impact on each one of us.”
The conference is named in honor of Gen. George C. Marshall who played a crucial role in international affairs from 1939-51. The purpose of the conference is to develop young leaders’ focus for the problems the world will face in the year of 2020 and was hosted by Gen. David C. Perkins, the commander of the Army’s Training and Doctrine Command and Maj. Gen. Peggy C. Combs, the commander of U.S. Army Cadet Command.
