Private equity firm FG1 Partners makes strategic growth investment in C-SMART Analytics to accelerate market share and innovation for natural gas measurement monitoring technology.
LOVELAND, Colo., Dec. 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- C-SMART Analytics, the leader in natural gas measurement diagnostics monitoring, analytics and maintenance by exception technology, today announced that it has received a strategic growth investment from FG1 Partners, a Dallas-based private equity firm. With extensive personal experience founding and monetizing more than $2 billion of startups and tech companies, FG1's founders and proven track record bring valuable experience to C-SMART Analytics and its management team to position the company for rapid expansion and innovation.
"The C-SMART team is excited to partner with FG1 and leverage their tremendous expertise as we execute our growth strategy together," said Ernie Hauser, president of C-SMART Analytics. "Gas measurement has substantial reach and impact across organizations in the supply chain on multiple dimensions, including finance, people, and environmental. With FG1 at our side fueling our next wave of growth, we'll be able to make bold new strides in the market to deliver a truly impactful gas measurement analytics solution that generates tangible and meaningful value. Importantly, FG1's strategic investment empowers C-SMART to continue innovating at the pace our industry and customers need as natural gas becomes increasingly crucial to our communities and economy."
According to the Energy Information Agency, the midstream and gas transportation lost and unaccounted for (LAUF) averages 0.40% of throughput. The primary root causes of measurement error include obstructions and contamination, faulty or damaged equipment, and even human errors introduced while performing routine maintenance. Meter inspection and analysis of diagnostics data is typically performed monthly or quarterly, leading organizations to adopt a more general top down, and less sensitive, system balancing approach for LAUF that allows errors to persist for 90 days or more. As a result, the midstream and transportation industry alone loses an estimated $4.2 billion annually to LAUF errors based on $6 natural gas pricing.
Veterans of the natural gas industry and pioneers of field measurement equipment, C-SMART co-founders Ernie Hauser and Ed Hanks set out to shift organizations away from relying solely on system balancing to a maintenance by exception strategy that leverages continuous monitoring, digital twins, and automated alerts to reduce LAUF errors by as much as 80%. Founded in 2012, C-SMART Analytics was a part of the WEST family of flow measurement companies for a decade. With its strategic investment in C-SMART Analytics, FG1 Partners has taken a majority ownership position in the company, providing C-SMART Analytics with the capital and expertise needed to navigate its growth trajectory.
"With global alignment on climate change and intensifying pressure to improve ESG performance, the smartest way forward is to rapidly eliminate emissions uncertainty by focusing on lost and unaccounted for gas errors with technology that is available now, establishing a true emissions baseline from which to measure success," said Drew Chambers of FG1 Partners. "We're thrilled to support C-Smart Analytics' mission to shrink LAUF errors and with the capital infusion from FG1 we are accelerating that value across the gas supply chain."
