Krinsky learns about Enwave Energy's Deep Lake Water Cooling system, which transports the cold water from the bottom of Lake Ontario through a filtration plant and then to a heat transfer station to extract the energy to cool buildings in Downtown Toronto. She also discusses Cadillac Fairview's geoexchange retrofit initiative, which collects heat and stores it underground to be used over in the Winter. What is unique about their initiatives are that they are existing building retrofits. The tenant spaces were not affected from the start to finish of these projects, and in return the projects substantially lowered the building's operational carbon footprint and reduced utility cost. On top of learning about sustainable climate control technology, she also discovered an innovative on-site waste management technology, which drastically reduces the environmental footprint of some of the busiest offices and retail spaces in Canada.
