FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As summer approaches and the school season starts to wrap up, Camp Live Oak has revealed their latest program offering for the vacation season: the Salty Anglers Fishing Camp at Dania Beach in South Florida. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Camp Live Oak is the only accredited day camp by the American Camp Association (ACA) in Broward County, and has been providing outdoor nature experiences for the past thirty years. The Salty Anglers Fishing Camp program is new to their lineup of summer activities. Open to children between the ages of eight and thirteen, young anglers will receive interactive lessons on fishing skills, sportsmanship, and environmental conservation.
Beginning on June 10th and running until August 2nd, the Salty Anglers Fishing Camp program is held at Dr. Von D. Mizell – Eula Johnson State Park at Dania Beach from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with extended care available. Campers participate in hands-on learning about fish, the history of fishing, knot tying, casting, and local Florida fishing guidelines. Camp Live Oak fishing professionals also give lessons on fishing best practices and policies while taking campers out on fishing trips in both fresh and salt water. Kids enrolled in the program also enjoy afternoon activities with other campers such as swimming, canoeing, sports games, and more.
"When the International Game Fish Association discontinued their fishing program, there was a clear gap that needed to be filled in Broward County," stated Susanna Coleman, the Associate Director of Camp Live Oak. "We wanted to keep the program alive so kids can continue to learn about fishing while forming new bonds and experiencing Florida's natural resources to the fullest."
Since phasing out their fishing camp, the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) has reestablished their community ties via Camp Live Oak. The partnership will allow children to explore their passion for the outdoors and fishing, with direct educational support from the IGFA, an organization with years of dedication to the conservation of game fish and the promotion of responsible and ethical angling practices.
"Camp Live Oak's Salty Anglers Fishing Camp program is a great way to introduce children to fishing and everything it offers," said Camp Live Oak founder, Ken Evans. "As always, our camps provide opportunities for campers to experience nature while learning about environmental stewardship. This program enhances our already robust schedule with adventure and education that makes a profound impact on kids' lives."
