LOS ANGELES, April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- So, we have all seen every soppy, romantic, over-dramatized cancer film ever made, and let's face it most of them end up with Academy Awards because audiences love to glorify that type of reality. However, what is yet to be seen on the big screen is a story about the inner workings of the clinical trial side of cancer and the lengths people will to go for a trial to succeed. That is until now, let's talk about this new film that is addressing that story head on; Cancer's Last Stand.
Cancer's Last Stand is set in Brooklyn back in early 2000, starring Lilly Dennis, playing the role of Emily. Emily is a young woman who after suffering through cancer several times in her life has gotten her last sentence. Emily has been terminally diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and has decided to not prolong her life with more chemo or radiation. However, things change when she is given an odd proposal of a clinical trial. The trial proposed to her is not one that will cure her in time, but she would become the 'guinea pig' in the hopes of getting the trial approved and to help save others. It's at the same time she is offered this trial that she discovers her sister's daughter, Annabelle, has been diagnosed with the same cancer, just less aggressive. This is the turning point where Emily decides to go forward with this trial in the hopes it can save her niece. Emily becomes somewhat of a martyr, she doesn't tell her family what she is doing and is progressively getting worse and worse because of the drugs. This film gives an honest and raw look at the inner workings of these clinical trials and the dark things people will do in times of crisis.
Now while I won't spoil the ending for you, what I will tell you is that this film displays some of the best talent on the rise in Hollywood. The two stars of the film Lilly Dennis and Quartay Denaya, who plays her sister, Jen, both take us through an incredibly emotional journey of sisterhood and undying love. The film was written and directed by Eric Owosu, who has written for networks such as Disney. The film is currently in post-production, so we look forward to hearing a release date soon.
Recently the Cancer's Last Stand stars appeared at a red carpet event in LA where they said the following, "I think we are both just really excited to see such an incredible script come to life, the film is based on real events and to tell this story is an amazing honor," Dennis stated, her co-star added, "Also, I think the fact that this story of sickness and love in a time of crisis is so relatable on a human level, I have no doubt that it will resonate with audiences." This film has gained a lot of attention and build-up, so we eagerly wait for the film's release date.
