CareOne Joins Relief Efforts in Puerto Rico; Evacuates Elderly
Fort Lee, NJ (PRWEB) October 03, 2017 -- CareOne has joined other private companies including Facebook, Google, Tesla and Apple, to offer support and crucial relief to the 3.4 million people of Puerto Rico who were slammed by Hurricane Maria. CareOne flew over 20,000 lbs of donations including generators, 1,000 vials of insulin, food and water to Puerto Rico. In addition, CareOne evacuated elderly residents who were in need of medical care. While on board the flight to the United States, one elderly woman’s oxygen concentrator’s unit battery failed. CareOne physicians on board stabilized her until the flight landed and she was admitted to the ER upon landing.
Local residents and employees of CareOne facilities in Massachusetts and New Jersey collected contributions that were flown to Puerto Rico with the CareOne crew. CareOne partnered with sister companies InnovaCare and Partners Pharmacy to bring the residents of Puerto Rico necessities, such as food, water, insulin and generators.
“The people of Puerto Rico have been devastated by Hurricane Maria and many are still without power and have limited access to clean water, food, and medicine,” says Daniel E. Straus, CEO of CareOne. “We are one of many concerned private companies that are stepping in to help those who are facing a long and difficulty recovery.”
Puerto Rico has had no running water, electricity or reliable communication with the rest of the world since Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico on Sept. 20 as a Category 4 storm with winds of 155 mph. Residents have had difficulty obtaining basic necessities of water, food and fuel for cars and generators. Food, cell phone service, medicine and other lifesaving provisions are in limited supply.
In addition to the donations already collected and distributed in Puerto Rico, CareOne management has established the Gwen and Joseph Straus Foundation to supply financial assistance to individuals and families impacted by unforeseen circumstances. The Foundation will also provide funds to research organizations.
The Gwendolyn And Joseph Straus Charitable Fund is an organization that focuses on improving the quality of life through charitable financial assistance to individuals, families and community organizations who are significantly impacted by catastrophic events.
