Carer Organizations From Around the World Join for a Virtual Meeting to Discuss COVID-19's Impact Families
The National Alliance for Caregiving and Embracing Carers Partner to Showcase Global Caregiving Research, Innovation, and Advocacy.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 14, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- More than 68 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, and more than 1.5 million people have died as a result of this disease, according to the World Health Organization. For those who care for someone with a health care need or disability, the impact of the global pandemic has only magnified the challenges facing these families. Carers need support, now more than ever, and policymakers and advocates in the United States are looking to our global colleagues for solutions.
That is why the National Alliance for Caregiving (NAC) has partnered with Embracing Carers movement to host the first-ever World Carers Conversation. Leaders in caregiving from six regions of the world will participate, including the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific. Experts will speak to potential solutions to support carers beyond the pandemic—discovered in response to the COVID-19 outbreak—such as improving access to telemedicine and innovation in online carer support.
"So many nations face increasing challenges as we head into the winter months and we wait for families to get the vaccine it's critical that we find solutions to prevent unnecessary pain and suffering," said C. "This is a critical moment for caregiving leaders to identify what must be done and what must change for caregivers as we face a post-COVID world."
This event is open and free to the public. The Conversation opened with a special musical reception with Cameron James, a singer-songwriter and rare disease carer on Sunday, December 13, and will close with a global town hall where invited guests can share feedback on a new caregiving and COVID-19 framework developed by NAC and the Adira Foundation.
