Carole Hyla Sheppard's Newly Released "The Adventures of Anna" Is a Compelling Children's Book about a Girl and Her Friends Preparing for Thanksgiving
"The Adventures of Anna" from Christian Faith Publishing author Carole Hyla Sheppard is a lively children's book that tells the story of Anna, a kindhearted little girl who becomes head room helper in her class and has all sorts of fun with her friends, trying her best to include a wheelchair-bound girl named Katy in their events--but now they have to put on a Thanksgiving presentation and find a good role for her.
MEADVILLE, Pa., Nov. 23, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "The Adventures of Anna": a fun story about a girl's school adventures with friends. "The Adventures of Anna" is the creation of published author Carole Hyla Sheppard, a Californian teacher turned children's book writer and illustrator who taught kindergarten and grades five through eight.
Sheppard writes, "Monday morning, Anna skipped down the hill to school, jumping over the cracks in the sidewalk. She was thinking of a way to help Katy.
Angie met her at the flagpole. 'Hi! Why are you frowning?'
'I was just wondering how Katy could find more things to do with us. That wheelchair doesn't let her do too much,' Anna said.
Angie nodded. 'I know. She didn't even show up for Parents' Night. I hope that's
not how it's going to be for her all year long.'
Anna spotted Katy driving up with her dad in his work truck with her wheelchair.
''There she is now!'
Anna and Angie ran up to Katy. 'Let's play on the schoolyard before first bell!'
The three girls played four square ball until the bell rang for class to begin.
'See you at lunch!' the girls called to one another.
Monday morning went by quickly, and soon Anna's teacher, Mrs. Wilson, made
an announcement.
'In a few weeks, it will be Thanksgiving. The two second-grade classes will be
performing in a play depicting the first Thanksgiving dinner celebrated by Pilgrims
and Indians. I'd like everyone to be a part of it. There will be Pilgrim and Indian roles,
and grown-up and children parts. Start thinking about what part you'd like to play.'
Anna was excited. A Thanksgiving play! What fun, she thought. She raced outside
with her lunch bag looking for Angie."
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Carole Hyla Sheppard's new book is a sweet story about children who learn to be thoughtful even while they focus on having fun.
Sheppard illustrates the colorful life of a fun-loving child set in the backdrop of her native California.
