Cassie Chadwick Life Story Being Turned Into Feature Film
Based on the incredible true story of one of the greatest bank robberies in American history, 'The Duchess of Criminality' is being turned into a feature film.
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Based on the incredible true story of one of the greatest bank robberies in American history, 'The Duchess of Criminality' is being turned into a feature film.
"We're extremely excited about doing this film on the incredible life story of Cassie Chadwick," says Director Timothy Chey. "She stole $19 million from the banks in 1905 at the height of the woman's suffrage movement."
In fact, history shows Ms. Chadwick robbed the banks when women could not get loans from the banks. It was what historians believe is the greatest bank robbery of our generation.
"It took me years of research on both Ms. Chadwick and the woman's suffrage movement," says Chey. "The incredible fact that she pulled off this robbery during the woman's suffrage movement is jaw-dropping and has to be pulled off right. But I think I finally broke the spine of the script and it can compete with the very best, including 'Godfather 2', 'Darkest Hour', 'Imitation Game', 'King's Speech', etc."
Chey is no stranger to historical films as he wrote and produced "Freedom" (Cuba Gooding, Jr, Sharon Leal, William Sadler) on the early life of John Newton who wrote 'Amazing Grace'.
"We filmed 'Freedom' for $6 million, but it looks like a $30 million film," adds Chey. "We even shot the film on the Amistad replica tall ship with my friend Dean Cundey (DP of 'Back to the Future', 'Jurassic Park')."
'Freedom' was a ratings blockbuster for Showtime and Netflix.
Chey also recently wrote and directed 'The Islands' starring Academy-Award winner Mira Sorvino and a 98% Hawaiian/Polynesian cast. Immortalized by Sir Alfred Lord Tennyson, 'The Islands' is based on the true story of a Hawaiian queen who found Christ over two hundred years ago and challenged the volcano god by going into an active volcano. It's considered one of the greatest acts of moral courage by a world leader. The film hits theaters this fall.
"I'm hoping to get 'The Duchess of Criminality' into production by early 2020 for a Christmas 2020 release," says Chey. "I think we have an excellent chance to be nominated for an Oscar."
