As the sun sets on the jobsite, Cat ® machines come to life in an homage to "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site."
FORT ATKINSON, Wis., Sept. 7, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Everyone knows what construction machines do during the day. They push and dig and lift. They roar and beep and hum. They move the dirt. But what do those machines do at the end of a hard day's work?
That's the question the latest Cat Trial in conjunction with the New York Times bestselling children's book "Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site" seeks to answer. The book imagines construction machines as workers themselves who are settling in for a well-earned sleep. It has become a modern classic and a favorite of children and parents around the world.
And now, author Sherri Rinker and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld's bedtime story about living machines has been brought to life through a charming new video from Caterpillar. Cat Trial 13: Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site was released Sept. 7, 2022, in celebration of International Literacy Day.
The new video expands on the book's story about Dozer, Crane Truck, Dump Truck, Excavator and Concrete Truck with the introduction of a new character: Service Truck.
"The book does a great job illuminating what happens when the machines go to bed...we go to work," says Yvette Morrison, Marketing & Brand VP, Caterpillar. "This is an opportune time to perform maintenance so the machines can be ready when our customers need them."
In addition to the Service Truck, the video features several machines as co-stars: a Cat® 340 excavator, 745 articulated dump truck, D6 dozer, TL642 telehandler, and a Cat-powered Concrete Truck. Archie Lyons, Creative Director, Caterpillar says the idea for the video came to him when he was reading to his four-year-old daughter, "Suddenly, the book came to life. I knew it was a Cat Trial and a perfect vehicle to tell the importance of Cat dealer services to our customers."
To really bring the book to life with real machines, the Caterpillar team first built the book's illustrations with 3D computer-generated graphics. "We worked closely with the book illustrator and our equipment and services teams to make sure we recreated this world accurately," says Lyons.
The team then used this 3D rendering as the plan for the real six-acre set build that matched the scale of the illustrations, including a two-story building at Caterpillar's Tinaja Hills Demonstration and Learning Center, just south of Tucson, Arizona. The site not only had the space needed to accommodate the set, but also breathtaking sunsets as depicted in the book.
Cat Trial 13: Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site celebrates the wonder and power of construction equipment that has captivated children and children at heart for more than 100 years. Join the story here: Cat.com/trial13
