On Thursday, the House of Representatives followed the Senate in approving the bill, and it will take immediate effect as soon as the President signs the it into law.
This is a huge victory for the hemp industry, because the bill contains provisions that will clearly make hemp and hemp-derived products legal throughout the country.
Hemp played a critical role in the US economy until the 1950s. But misinformation campaigns convinced the public that this versatile and useful plant was too dangerous for domestic cultivation. With the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, hemp farming was effectively banned for decades.
"The 2014 Farm Bill made it possible to grow hemp under the purview of state-sponsored pilot programs," said Meg Kramer, CBD Hacker's managing editor.
