CBR, Jason Hope Indicate UK Falling Behind on Internet of Things
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) December 25, 2014 -- As the Internet of Things continues to grow and expand, many countries are rising to the front as leaders in the adaptation and development of connected devices, but the UK is not one of them. In fact, according to a recent article in Computer Business Review (CBR), the UK is falling behind in adapting to the Internet of Things and reaping the benefits. Jason Hope, futurist and tech expert, believes that the UK will need to adopt IPv6 connectivity in order to catch up.
In an article on CBR, by Amy-jo Crowley, dated December 16th and entitled "UK Falling Behind in Race for Internet of Things" indicated that the UK is not getting the social and economic benefit of the Internet of Things that other countries have embraced. The article points to a lack of urgency for IPv6 as part of the problem. When initiatives about the technology have been proposed, big UK Internet service providers are not quick to push for them.
"This is a problem for the UK," says Jason Hope, "because they are running out of Internet address space. IPv6 is necessary to provide the space for the Internet of Things to take off."
It may be up to the government to make the necessary changes, "In some countries, IPv6 adoption has been mandated by regulation," said Emily Taylor, Internet policy expert quoted by CBR. "If you look at IPv6 success stories in other countries, they have one thing in common: their government has taken the lead." In other countries, the government has simply watched and added regulation when it was beneficial, without taking aggressive action. In the UK, the government has done little.
Whether or not the UK plays catch up in the race to embrace the Internet of Things remains to be seen, but what is certain is that the UK is lagging behind today. As technology changes, that may change as well.
