Celebrity Chefs Line up to Host The Samaritan Women Veranda Dinners
Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) May 09, 2014 -- Back by very popular demand, The Samaritan Women (TSW) is pleased to announce its schedule of spring and summer Veranda Dinners. The Veranda Dinners are an elegant and intimate way to celebrate and support the work of The Samaritan Women. Each menu is custom-crafted using locally sourced products and produce from the TSW Farm. The residents are a big part of the dinners, from preparing the atmosphere, to assisting the Chef, to serving the meal.
"Our fight against human trafficking both in the United States and abroad is one of the great human rights causes of our time," said Jeanne Allert, Executive Director and founder of The Samaritan Women. "The great Harriet Tubman said, 'Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.' These dinners a way to raise money to build on the work Harriet started and work to abolish modern day human slavery everywhere."
The season’s first Veranda Dinner will be held on May 16th, 2013 and will be a four-course menu prepared by Celebrity Chef Matt Milani, Maryland’s 2012 Restaurateur of the Year and owner of The Rumor Mill in Ellicott City. Dinner starts at 6:30 pm and will be held on the veranda of the stately, restored mansion on the Samaritan Women’s farm.
This year TSW is delighted to announce that it will be presenting the MARYLAND ABOLITIONIST award at the dinners. The MARYLAND ABOLITIONIST award will go to people who have made a significant contribution to the advancement of freedom in Maryland and the U.S.
The Samaritan Women was founded in 2007 by Jeanne Allert to promote health, healing, and hope in some of the most desperate and dark human trafficking situations in the US. The Samaritan Women is a nonprofit Christian organization welcoming and working with people of all faiths and spiritual paths.
The Samaritan Women’s mission focuses on four core efforts:
• Operating a transitional residence program for women recovering from trauma and trafficking that emphasizes life-rebuilding and reconciliation;
• Offering a vocational program in culinary arts with an innovative “from seed to table” curriculum;
• Managing a large urban farm that grows produce to support our vocational and therapeutic program; and
• Leading a statewide social justice initiative against human trafficking.
The TSW Residence program serves women who have endured trauma as victims of human trafficking. Their program emphasizes the restoration of women’s lives in the areas of academics, vocation, spirituality, relationships, and self-care. The TSW Farm & Food Ministry operates a large urban farm that provides local produce to families in need. We have a 2.5 acres farm, greenhouses, orchard, and berry vineyard. We use organic growing methods and community volunteers to support our work. Our farm also offers horticulture therapy and sustenance for those in our Residence program.
