Honduran singer Cesia (Cesia Jael Romero Zaenz) has been crowned the winner of the 20th anniversary season of La Academia, the leading Latin music competition series airing on EstrellaTV. Cesia wowed fans with her expressive and powerful voice, topping the captivating Andrés (Andres Uriel Encinas Villalba from Sonora, MX) in the finale. Coming in third was Ecuador's Mar (María Del Mar Rendon Kalil), followed by Nelson (Nelson David Contreras López of Guatamela) and Rubí (Rubí Ibarra Garcia of San Luis Potosi, MX) rounding out the top five in the finale.
Performing "Por Amor," Cesia drove the most fan votes to win the competition. Andrés's performance of "Me Va a Extrañar" earned him second place. As part of her victory, Cesia also won a recording contract with Sony Music Mexico.
Also announced were the Academicos (contestants) that award-winning Cumbia group Grupo Cañaveral chose to join the group on their tour: Andres and Nelson from the finale along with previously eliminated Academico Eduardo (Eduardo Ochoa of Tijuana and Los Angeles).
The series is a co-production of Estrella Media and TV Azteca, airing live and simultaneously on EstrellaTV in the U.S. and Azteca Uno in Mexico on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 p.m. to midnight ET/6 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT. The series is available on-demand on the EstrellaTV app and streaming on EstrellaTV.com.
