CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Emergency Department Opens Fast Track Program
CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center (CHA HPMC) launched its Emergency Department fast track (ED Fast Track) program to better serve its community.
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- CHA Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center (CHA HPMC) launched its Emergency Department fast track (ED Fast Track) program to better serve its community. CHA HPMC is home to one of the highest patient volume emergency rooms in Los Angeles County. The implementation of a fast track is expected to offset the patient-to-caregiver ratio which is necessary in order to most effectively and efficiently serve the Hollywood and Greater Los Angeles Area.
The goal for the CHA HPMC fast track program is to triage and expedite care for patients based on the urgency and severity of conditions presented at its Emergency Department. It ensures patients with less severe conditions are dealt with more quickly, freeing up space for patients that require more extensive medical attention. This efficiency will also bring shorter wait times for diagnostic imaging and testing.
In its first week of operation, there was a drastic decrease in the percentage of patients who left without being seen. Patients who would rather leave than endure long wait times is an issue plaguing emergency departments in densely populated cities. This is a promising indicator that CHA HPMC's Emergency Department will be able to treat more patients in a timely manner. The Medical Center caters to a large and diverse patient population at the intersection of the East Hollywood, Los Feliz, and Silverlake neighborhoods. As a safety net hospital in a major metropolis, there is nearly a guaranteed overflow of patients.
The ED Fast Track program has vastly decreased the arrival-to-care time, as well as the length-of-stay for patients with less severe, urgent conditions. It has also enabled walk-in patients to be seen much quicker. This is particularly valuable as it makes physical distancing more of a possibility in an often overcrowded Emergency Department.
