Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology honored William J. Flynn, chair of the board and chief executive officer of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. for his role as an influential leader in the aviation and aerospace industries, and his dedicated support of Vaughn College at the sixth annual event.

Vaughn College honored William J. Flynn, chair of the board and chief executive officer of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. for his role as an influential leader in the aviation and aerospace industries, and his dedicated support of Vaughn College at the sixth annual event on Thursday, November 7.

Anne Thompson, chief environmental affairs reporter of NBC news, returned as master of ceremonies for an evening that also highlighted outstanding academic and professional achievements of Vaughn students.

The Gala set a new record and generated more than $460,000 with the highest number of attendees, the greatest number of sponsorships and the most ticket sales. Proceeds raised will be used to fund scholarships and institutional priorities. Atlas Air was a platinum sponsor.

“Every decision we make must be about returning value to our students so that they feel confident about the decision they have made to attend Vaughn,” said Vaughn College President Dr. Sharon B. DeVivo. “Our direct relationship with fast growing companies like Atlas is literally the fuel for creating value because it allows students to see the career pathway with an entry-level position and a trajectory through the ranks.”

Vaughn College serves many first-generation Americans and first-generation college students and seeks to provide an engaging educational experience for every student. Ninety-nine percent of Vaughn graduates are employed, 83 percent of those in a related field, or continuing their education within one year of graduation.

“Ten percent of our workforce in our New York headquarters are Vaughn College graduates. Many more graduates work elsewhere across our company and several of our employees are now teaching at Vaughn. And countless more have mentored Vaughn students through our ongoing internship program,” said Flynn at the Gala. “The work that Vaughn is doing is so critical to propelling this industry forward. Vaughn is developing some of the best and brightest minds in the workforce today.”

Next year’s gala will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
