Charter College's Anchorage Campus Becomes the First Alaska Chapter of the American Association of Men in Nursing
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Charter College recently became the first Alaska chapter of the American Association for Men in Nursing (AAMN). The AAMN Board of Directors approved Charter College's application, officially welcoming the Anchorage Nursing program into the organization.
This recognition gives Charter College nursing students access to a national professional network of nurses and supports the continued growth of the program. Membership in AAMN highlights the growing presence of men in nursing and allows Charter's students to build mentorship relationships with like-minded nursing professionals.
"Men in nursing face very unique challenges related to providing care," said Daniel Booher, Associate Dean of Nursing at Charter College. "One of my focuses in education has always been to champion and mentor men as students in nursing to move beyond our current state. This gives us a platform to do that and to connect our students with men in nursing across the state and nationally."
AAMN provides a nationwide platform for men in nursing to discuss professional challenges, share experiences, and support the advancement of men in the profession. Booher said that the organization also provides an opportunity to bring greater attention to men's health and preventive care.
Charter College plans to use this platform to build connections between its nursing students and practicing nurses in Alaska. Nursing leadership at the institution also plan to collaborate with other nursing programs throughout the state and create opportunities for male nursing students to learn from one another.
"As the first Alaska chapter of AAMN, I believe it will allow us to reach out to the local nursing community and bring in more male nurses to mentor our student body," Daniel said. "It may also allow us to collaborate with the other nursing programs in the state to create dialogue with our students."
According to Booher, Charter College also plans to explore opportunities to support men's health in Alaska through additional community involvement. Booher said one potential initiative is a partnership with Alaska Health Fair to provide low-cost preventive screenings for men and an environment where men can feel comfortable to discuss their health concerns.
As the first AAMN installation in the state, Charter aims to continue its support for nursing students as they prepare to enter the profession and create connections that extend beyond the classroom.
Charter College's long-term goal is to expand its reach throughout Alaska, develop partnerships with local organizations, connect students with practicing nurses, and elevate the discussion around men's health in communities across the state.
