CHI Applauds Bold Efforts by House Energy and Commerce Committee to Support Next Generation of Medical Cures
La Jolla, Calif. (PRWEB) January 27, 2015 -- CHI-California Healthcare Institute issued the following statement today in response to newly released discussion documents regarding the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s 21st Century Cures initiative.
“On behalf of the more than 275 life sciences organizations we represent, CHI applauds Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.) for taking on this thoughtful approach to spurring medical innovation and accelerating scientific discovery,” said Todd Gillenwater, CHI’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy. “The 21st Century Cures discussion draft put forth by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce serves as a vital starting point to ensuring that California and the nation remains the leader in worldwide biomedical innovation. This initiative takes an entirely new approach, by addressing the full continuum of biomedical discovery, development and delivery. From modernizing clinical trials and medical product regulation to bolstering support for young scientists and exciting areas of science – Chairman Upton’s proposal sets in place a comprehensive approach to advancing new treatments, technologies and cures. While the release of today’s draft is only a starting point for further discussions, we are encouraged by the wide inclusion of stakeholder views and priorities from across the biomedical spectrum, consisting of regulators, patients, providers, researchers and more – including CHI. And we look forward to continue working with Chairman Upton, bipartisan members of the Committee, House Leadership and our congressional delegation to advance this proposal into transformative legislation that will benefit patients here and around the world for many years to come.”
