LOS ANGELES, May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to Bloomberg research, social shopping accounted for about 3% of all online sales in the United States in 2018, or just under $17 billion. But in China, it was 8.5% of online sales in 2017, and growing rapidly to 15% by 2022, or $413 billion in sales, per Frost & Sullivan.
Social shopping in China has already evolved past our charmingly quaint #ad hashtags and innovations like directly tagging products for easier purchasing. There, retail has combined with China's other great social passion, livestreaming, and shop owners and influencers are selling goods in real time. Uplive's sister platform Super Fan Club has teamed up with Top ecommerce platform to leverage celebrities to sell products.
Influencer would encourage more people to show interest in a product by saying things like, "If I have three more people who are interested in this, we're going to go and bargain with the shop seller for a lower price." Viewers can buy products directly from links on the screen.
The livestreams are interactive, too, so viewers can send thumbs up or hearts and maybe earn rewards and discounts at various shops.
There is also interest from American designers who could use social media and online influencers to go directly to Chinese consumers without needing a physical presence in the country. Especially small- or medium-sized businesses who may not have the means and the funds to open a proper shop. Before people are using platforms like wechat to sell products, now more are using live streaming platforms as they are more direct and interactive.
