Chinese Demand for UK Residential Property Surges: Juwai.com Releases Q4 UK Report

A new Juwai.com report reveals that Chinese buying enquiries for UK residential property more than tripled to their highest level on record between February and August 2018.

Juwai.com today released its Q4 UK Report, revealing that Chinese buying enquiries for UK residential property more than tripled to their highest level on record between February and August 2018. The report summarizes the latest data on Chinese demand for residential property in the United Kingdom.

The report includes demand data on the top five cities for Chinese property purchases:

• London: enquiries up 65.0% in August over the same month in 2017.
• Manchester: enquiries up more than 200% in August over the same month in 2017.
• Birmingham: enquiries up more than nine-fold, albeit from a lower base, in August over the same month in 2017.
• Edinburgh: enquiries up from a relatively low base more than 20-fold in August over the same month in 2017.
• Liverpool: inquiries up 162.5% in August over the same month in 2017.

In total, international property acquisitions by investors from mainland China, Hong Kong, or Chinese-ethnicity Singapore totalled £118.9 billion in 2017. The United Kingdom alone was the destination for at least £16.6 billion of that investment. This includes both commercial and residential property.
