Chitimacha Tribal members have elected its newest Tribal Council members for the 2018-2020 term in a General Election on June 9, 2018. The run-off election was held on July 14, 2018. Tribal members had the opportunity to vote on two Councilman-At-Large positions. Brennan Fangue and Ann Kimberly Cook were elected as Council-At-Large. Cook took her oath of office on July 2, 2018 and Fangue followed after the run-off on August 1, 2018. Council members are responsible for overseeing government operations and several tribal enterprises.
Fangue has worked in various capacities supporting internal IT systems and networking for the Tribe, Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel, Trading Post, LLC., as well as other Tribal Enterprises.
“Being proud of our choices instills a great deal of confidence within us; we are responsible for our own future and I plan to continue our journey toward creating a sustainable Sovereign Nation,” Fangue commented.
Cook has over fourteen years of experience working within Chitimacha Tribal government and its enterprises. She began her career with the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana as an Office Assistant at Chitimacha Fire Protection in 2004, transferred to Tribal Administration in 2006, and in 2010 transferred to and is currently the Senior Director for the RiverCane Senior Center, where she oversees the elder activity and meals program as well as manages the sixteen unit senior independent living apartments located on the Chitimacha Reservation.
“I am excited that I have the opportunity to serve our Nation. My background in tribal government provides me with insight to make the best decisions for our people,” said Cook.
The council consists of three officers: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary-Treasurer, and two at-large Councilmen. Tribal Council officers and Councilmen serve two-year terms, which are staggered.
Jaqueline Junca was successful in her bid for re-election as Secretary-Treasurer.
