Christine Egan Argues for Empowerment, Individualized Care in Cancer Treatment
NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 02, 2017 -- Author Christine Egan, a certified health coach and self-described cancer warrior, chronicles her one-year journey to wellness and removes the fear from of a terrifying diagnosis in her book “The Healthy Girl’s Guide to Breast Cancer” (published by Balboa Press).
Part memoir and part practical guide, Egan’s book details the traditional and non-traditional treatments she underwent and empowers women to take control of their treatment by becoming the CEO of their own body. “You have to take ownership of your cancer diagnosis, and not hand it over to a doctor,” Egan says. “Understand that there are always alternatives.”
An excerpt from “The Healthy Girl’s Guide to Breast Cancer”:
"I quickly took it upon myself to become chief medical researcher ‘of cancer material,’ a great interviewer ‘of doctors,’ and a health chef ‘for myself and my family.’ I took responsibility for my body and my treatment and I never left any decision to be made solely by a medical practitioner. I did research, asked questions, said NO, said YES, and when I needed to kept my head down to get through what was needed."
“I am about encouraging women to gather information and decide which treatment works best for them – not for their doctor,” Egan said. “Treatment decisions need to be made from a place of knowledge and empowerment, not fear. Women need to take an active role in their cancer treatment, not just go in blindly.”
