The Rocky Mountain purchasing group connects local governments with vendors looking to do business with public agencies. On the Rocky Mountain E-Purchasing System, vendors seeking business with over 375 participating agencies can register online to gain access to a single point of entry for opportunities throughout Colorado. By posting upcoming bids and RFPs on the Rocky Mountain E-Purchasing System, the City of Craig ensures an entire community of vendors can view their solicitation, download documents, and receive notification of addenda. The vendors self-register and ensure their contact information is up to date.
"The City of Craig is looking to improve the way it distributes bid opportunities and make them more accessible to prospective vendors. The City of Craig invites all local vendors to visit http://www.bidnetdirect.com/colorado/cityofcraig and register to receive access to its upcoming solicitations as well as the upcoming bids and RFPs from 388 other public agencies participating on the Rocky Mountain E-Purchasing System. Registered vendors have the option to upgrade their service to receive customized bid alerts, notification of term contract expiration, and notification of a real-time addendum.
About the City of Craig:
Founded by William H. Tucker, Craig was incorporated as a city on July 15, 1908. The town was named for one of the town's financial backers, Reverend William Bayard Craig.
Craig became the county seat when Moffat County was created out of the western portion of Routt County on February 27, 1911. In the same area as Craig, at the confluence of the Yampa River (then known as the Bear River) and Fortification Creek, were previous towns known as Yampa (as early as 1885) and Windsor (as early as 1878). In 1878, the area consisted of several ranches and at least two businesses: Himley's Ferry (which allowed crossing of the Yampa River) and Peck's Store (a one-room trading post).
It took until Nov. 20, 1913, for the railroad to reach Craig. After that, the push to Salt Lake ended, but service between Craig and Denver continued. In 1953, the D&RGWRR, donated Moffat's elegant private Pullman car, "Marcia," named for his daughter, to the city of Craig. It sits in City Park as a symbol of the role Moffat and his railroad played in the development of Craig and northwestern Colorado.
In the 1970s and early 1980s, the largest power generation plant in Colorado and several coal mines were constructed near Craig.
Today Craig is the economic hub of Moffat, County, with a population of almost 10,000. It has the feel of the old west when life was more simple, but with all the modern necessities.
