ClickHelp Release Overview - Aurora Polaris
ClickHelp, an online documentation tool, has recently released the Aurora Polaris update. It includes major functionality changes as well as a ton of usability improvements.
TULA, Tula Region, April 04, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Aurora Polaris ClickHelp update is a big tool update that includes many changes in practically every part of the help authoring tool: the UI, review process, help topics update process, portal navigation, reporting, agility and more.
New Review Process
This update of ClickHelp incorporates many enhancements of existing features, as well as brand new functionality added. One of the main focuses of the tool development has been placed on the review process.
Review Comments have become more visible and now include a wider range of ways to manage them.
Review Comments and ToDo items are now reflected in a TOC - topics that have such unresolved items are marked with brightly-colored squares with the number of unresolved items on them.
The complete list of all Review Comments is now available both in the editing and reading modes.
Now, it is possible to get links to specific Review Comments in order to share them. The links can be copied from the Review Comments list.
More Agile Help Authoring
The publishing process has been changed, too. It has become more agile as now specific topics can be selected for publishing or updating instead of the whole documentation project.
This means that there is no more need to wait for every single topic to be ready for a documentation update. Such an agile approach allows help topics to become available to readers right as soon as they are finished.
This simplifies working with documentation projects that do not depend on product releases - knowledge bases, policies and procedures, internal docs, FAQs, etc.
Better Navigation Inside User Manuals
In ClickHelp, you are able to directly influence search results for different help topics using taxonomies. Taxonomies are groups of keywords that are represented hierarchically, and you can assign them to any help topic to make it show up in search results for specific queries. Plus, it is possible to navigate through topics via index keywords.
Another important navigation change is the possibility of inserting any navigation elements right in topics' header using the Master Page settings.
For example, a Breadcrumbs element can be added to the top of every help topic to enhance navigation inside the online documentation portal.
Also, since the Aurora Polaris release, the mini-TOC navigation element is auto-updated.
Improvements of Full-Text Search Engine
The ClickHelp tool features a patented full-text search engine, and, in this product update, the search engine functionality has been improved. The search results inside ClickHelp online documentation portals have become more precise.
Another prominent feature that has been added to the search feature is the possibility of using the asterisk wildcard (for example, searching for "app*" will show results for both "apple" and "application"), as well as logical expressions.
Readability Scores and More Metrics Added
30+ metrics have been added to ClickHelp for the analysis of user manuals and evaluation of team performance, starting with things as simple as a word count and syllable count and ending with complex Readability Scores.
ClickHelp Aurora Polaris features 10 different Readability Scores for content analysis. These scores scan text in help topics and provide information on how difficult the text is based on a set of metrics. Such scores are often used to make user manuals a better match for their target audience.
Better Reporting
The new Reader Count report has been implemented in the Aurora Polaris ClickHelp update. This means that now it is possible to see the number of unique users who visited a documentation portal during a specific period of time.
In case of Power Readers, the number of pages a particular user visited is shown.
This info can be obtained for the entire online documentation portal, or just for a specific user manual.
General Usability Improvements
This update is not only about fundamental changes. User experience in general has been in the center of the ClickHelp devs attention. So, many little tweaks and subtle changes have been made.
The UI has become more intuitive - improved Table of Contents, metrics in the topic header, easier Home page customization, simpler content reuse and copying.
Here are Some More Enhancements:
1. New mechanism to insert Code Examples
2. E-mail notification settings for each user
3. Special symbols insertion in topic content
4. Improved Table of Contents performance for large projects
5. Streamlined publishing process
6. Export engine improvements
7. Better validation of broken links
8. Etc.
