Fully contactless face recognition at up to 1.6 meters with advanced AI-based matching algorithm, targeting access control and time & attendance applications

CMITech Company, a leader in cost effective, high performance iris and face recognition systems, announced today that it has launched its NovaFace face recognition system, a compact, embedded terminal for ultra-fast and user friendly biometrics authentication. The NovaFace system can be wall, turnstile or speedgate mounted, making it fully suitable for access control and T&A deployments.

Most importantly, the NovaFace system is fully contactless while operating at a stand-off distance range of 0.3 to 1.6 meters, addressing the most serious of current user concerns about hygiene and potential bio-hazard contamination. The user experience is fast and effortless; the system incorporates an innovative auto-zoom display function that enlarges the subject’s face to make positioning easier from a distance. Furthermore, the NovaFace employs the latest of AI-based (neural network) face recognition algorithms to provide the highest levels of matching accuracy.

“The biometrics industry is now urgently migrating to contactless solutions,” said Dr. JJ Chae, the CEO of CMITech. “Our new NovaFace product not only fully addresses the very serious mandate of avoiding any user contact with an authentication device, but also delivers on expectations of a great user experience—fast, smooth and effortless.“

The NovaFace product shares the same systems integration architecture as the company’s leading iris product, the EF-45, a proven approach that is easy to implement. This also means that partners who have already integrated the EF-45 will be able to add the NovaFace to their product line-up with minimal effort.

“The recent advent of neural network based face algorithms has completely changed the biometrics landscape,” said Phil Tusa, the COO of CMITech. “These algorithms deliver far superior accuracy levels than just a couple of years ago, putting face recognition on a par with the best of single fingerprint sensors. Without question, the biometrics world will now quickly migrate toward contactless face recognition solutions like the NovaFace.”
