Colorado Air Hockey Announces 2014 Air Hockey World Championship
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) April 27, 2014 -- Colorado Air Hockey has announced the 2014 Air Hockey World Championship Event Series in Denver, Colorado. Expected attendees include 11-time World Champion Danny Hynes, three-time World Champion Billy Stubbs, two-time World Champion Davis Lee, and two-time World Champion Ehab Shoukry. Stubbs, the winner of two championship events in 2012, will also appear on a brand new show on the Travel Channel on April 29th at 8:30 p.m. (MST) called "Game On, America" which interviews experts at bar games across the country.
"This event promises to be a unique and exciting addition to the fair. It will feature elite Air Hockey players from around the world as well as interactive events for fair-goers of all skill levels, " says Chris Lee, Tournament Director. "I am extremely grateful that the Denver County Fair and our table sponsor Valley-Dynamo, have given us the opportunity to bring championship level Air Hockey to Denver."
The three-day event series will feature the Mile-High Challenge double elimination tournament on Friday evening. In this unique event, the playing field is leveled by giving beginners and lower skill level players a "head start" in each game when facing off against more experienced players. In the Mile-High Challenge, a match is the best two out of three games and each game is a race to seven goals. Skill levels range from level 0 to level 6 with a maximum point spot of 5. So, if a beginner (level 0) was to face a master (level 6), that player would start each game with 5 points. This event is anyone's event to win.
"The Mile-High Challenge is one of the most exciting events," says Lee. "There is no other competitive sport in the world where beginners can face off against the best in the world and still have a really good chance of winning. We make it not only possible, but highly likely, that some of the top players in the world will be defeated by players that have never played in an Air Hockey tournament in their life."
To add to the excitement, before the Mile-High Challenge begins, several of the top level players participating in the event will have cash bounties attached to them. Any player skilled (or lucky) enough to knock out one of these selected players will win a cash bounty.
Other events will include an Open Doubles tournament on Friday morning and an Open Singles tournament spanning Saturday and Sunday that will ultimately determine the best Air Hockey player in the world. Several amateur-only tournaments and events will take place throughout the weekend and will be open to Denver County Fair visitors.
The event will be held August 1 - 3 at the National Western Complex, 4655 Humboldt St., Denver, CO. Registration for all events is open to the public. More detailed information regarding registration, rules, entry fees, and event times are available at http://www.coairhockey.com.
Additionally, 10% of the proceeds from the sponsors of this event will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver ( http://www.ronaldhouse.org/ ). This exciting and unique event will be positioned front and center at the Denver County Fair and will give sponsors of this event exposure to the 15,000+ fair visitors that attend the fair each year.
