Colorado Philanthropist Lloyd Claycomb Establishes New Charity
(PRWEB) July 28, 2016 -- Across the country, organizations such as Wounded Warrior Project exist to provide help to American soldiers who were injured in the line of duty. Charities like these have the potential to make a tremendous difference in the lives of these soldiers and their families by offering financial support for medical expenses and other costs that are characteristic of those living with physical impairments and disabilities. Often times, the recovery process for these soldiers is a long and painful one and frequently have to learn how to live with permanent, life altering disabilities.
Caregivers of these soldiers are there every step of the way and will experience tremendous amounts of pain and heartache themselves. While their husband, wife, son, or daughter may have paid a large sacrifice in their service to their country, those who care for these individuals are not free from sacrifice themselves. Their entire life may be turned upside-down, dreams put on hold, and priorities shifted in order to be present for their injured loved one. Additionally, they most likely do not have the financial resources to enjoy the things in life that some may take for granted. Charities and organizations whose mission is to be an aid to our physically and psychologically injured veterans should undoubtedly be commended. Yet it seems that these caregivers are often overlooked, until now.
“Our Warriors at Home” is a non-profit organization founded by Colorado businessman, philanthropist, and long time resident Lloyd Claycomb II. Claycomb is CEO and chairman of Colorado’s largest specialty construction company, United Builders Service, Inc. (UBS), which has been in business for over 38 years. When looking at the Denver skyline, it is difficult to find any construction project in which UBS has not been involved.
“There seem to be many avenues by which our injured veterans can receive assistance,” says Claycomb, “but my heart aches for the wives, mothers, and caregivers of those suffering from service related injuries and how their lives are forever changed by their loved one’s willingness to courageously serve their country. While there may not be much I can do to permanently change their difficult situation, I felt compelled to find a way to bring some joy into their lives.”
The mission of “Our Warriors at Home” is to support the wives and mothers post-9/11 active duty, National Guard, and reserve servicemembers and veterans from all branches of the military who were injured in the line of duty by allowing these caregivers to press pause on their difficult daily routines and just enjoy life. For each qualified recipient, the organization will pay for an entire day of fun or rest & relaxation. Some options include a spa day, full accommodations at a luxury hotel, a nice evening out with friends or their significant other or even skydiving for the adventurous at heart.
This particular cause is just one of many in which Mr. Claycomb is involved. With his wife, Karen, Lloyd Claycomb has been involved with many charitable organizations around the globe such as Maranatha International Volunteers, The Suva Fiji Mission, Amazing Facts, and Our Children International to name a few. Additionally, Lloyd was responsible for the development and construction of an orphanage in El Salvador which currently supports 160 children.
“Our Warriors at Home” is Claycomb’s next initiative to make a positive impact in the lives of others and improve the communities in which he is involved. While the organization was designed to meet the needs of the wives, mothers, and other caregivers of wounded soldiers in Colorado, he hopes that one day “Our Warriors at Home” will have a national presence.
Last year, Claycomb along with the board of directors at United Builders Service, Inc. of made the decision to donate 10% of 2016 profits to charities such as “Our Warriors at Home” as one of the recipients of that donation. Claycomb has also announced that he will personally match the donations made by UBS to “Our Warriors at Home” in an effort to reach as many caregivers of veterans as possible and has set aside $100,000 for the initial startup of this organization.
