Recently the team at Commack Locksmiths received an emergency call from a resident with a lock problem. Usually calls of this nature are commonly in regards to a person who has lost their keys or for some other reason are locked out of the residence, business or automobile. In this case, the tables were turned as the person with the emergency found themselves locked into their residence and unable to get out. Hearing the rising tension in the person’s voice, one of the techs were dispatched to help out.
Upon arrival the tech assessed the situation and discovered that his original assumptions upon hearing about the issue were correct. The lock in question was a double cylinder deadbolt where a key can be used on either the inside or outside to lock or unlock the door. While these types of locks are illegal to use in commercial setting as they represent a fire hazard, they are legal for use in private residence. In this situation, inside locking mechanism tail piece broke, preventing the key from disengaging latch. The Commack Locksmith technician was able to manipulate the lock from outside and allow the resident to leave. Upon explaining exactly what happened, the tech offered a solution that would prevent such an incident from happening again. The resident agreed that it would be the best course of action and the broken double cylinder lock was replaced with a single cylinder dead bolt.
