“When employees are given the tools and parameters to independently achieve objectives, it helps develop both their confidence and their critical thinking skills. The result is both a stronger team and a culture that rewards initiative and drive.”
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (PRWEB) August 05, 2020
The paradigm of commander’s intent is used in the military to help troops independently overcome challenges and complete their mission by ensuring they understand both the intent and risk parameters of the task. It has become increasingly relevant in the corporate world, as leaders seek to break free of micromanagement and provide their teams with the tools and guidance they need to reach successful outcomes. Former Apache Attack Helicopter pilot, corporate executive, and organizational growth specialist Ken Thompson will explore six crucial elements that can help maximize the potential of this technique during a live-streamed video event, “Commander’s Intent: Empowering Leadership, from an Apache Attack Helicopter Cockpit to Corporate America.”
“Commanders Intent” will be streamed at http://www.youtube.com/huntsmanschool at 12:30 p.m. EST on Friday, Aug. 7, as part of Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business Power Up Series. The presentation is geared to leaders, as well as to university students who can use the principles of commander’s intent to ensure they have the guidance and resources they need to excel in their careers.
Thompson will discuss ways he’s used commander’s intent to help his teams realize positive outcomes, both during his service as a Commander in the U.S. Army, a COO and board member, company president, and a principal consultant for F500 companies.
“The concept of commander’s intent may have originated in the military, but I’ve seen it applied in the corporate world with tremendous success,” he said. “When employees are given the tools and parameters to independently achieve objectives, it helps develop both their confidence and their critical thinking skills. The result is both a stronger team and a culture that rewards initiative and drive.”
Thompson's leadership roles have ranged from the Department of Defense, logistics and supply chain, and the fashion and apparel industry. He currently serves as principal of AlignOrg Solutions, where he has led strategic design initiatives with companies such as Medtronic, Danaher, FedEx, AlignTech (Invisalign), and Adobe.
