Communities In Schools Spotlights Schools, Communities and Unsung Heroes
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Communities In Schools, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to empowering students to stay in school and achieve in life, is proud to announce the winners of the 2013 Awards of Excellence, a new and expanded recognition program. Since 2007, Communities In Schools has recognized members of the Communities In Schools national network who embody the core values of the organization and exemplify the commitment of Communities In Schools to surround students with a community of support.
The new annual Communities In Schools Awards of Excellence additionally recognize and honor local affiliates for exemplary work in schools and communities where they are making a difference each day to ensure the students they serve have the resources and supports to be successful in school and in life.
“In addition to our site coordinators, who are the lifeblood of this organization, strong schools and communities are critical in making sure the Communities In Schools model succeeds,” said Daniel J. Cardinali, president of Communities In Schools. “I am proud to recognize the passion and commitment of our staff, schools and communities from across the network in our collective effort to empower the 1.25 million students we serve to achieve.”
The five Schools of Excellence are:
• Aki Kurose Middle School, Seattle, Wash., served by Communities In Schools of Seattle
• Spring Creek High School, Spring Creek, Nev., served by Communities In Schools of Northeastern Nevada
• Schertz Elementary School, Schertz, Texas, served by Communities In Schools of South Central Texas
• Jane Edwards Elementary School, Charleston, S.C., served by Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area
• Vance High School, Charlotte, N.C., served by Communities In Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg
The four Communities of Excellence are awarded to affiliates who have designed and executed strong community partnerships to achieve collective impact. They are:
• Communities In Schools of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, N.C.
• Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo, Mich.
• Communities In Schools of the Charleston Area, S.C.
• Communities In Schools of Wayne County, Ind.
The five Unsung Heroes are:
• Leah Livingston, Communities In Schools of Lakewood, Wash.
• Dalisha Phillips, Communities In Schools of Seattle, Wash.
• Ronnell Page, Communities In Schools of Wilmington, Del.
• Sheila Motes, Communities In Schools of Greenville, S.C.
• Eloisa Vigil, Communities In Schools of the South Plains, Texas
The Schools of Excellence, Communities of Excellence and Unsung Heroes will be honored at a ceremony in Charlotte, N.C., in January.
