MARSHALL, N.C., Jan. 26, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Community Housing Coalition (CHC) of Madison County, NC announced that it would move its urgent home repair and rehabilitation programs and retail operations to a permanent home in April 2022.
After a three-year search, the community-based non-profit organization has purchased a building at 798 Walnut Creek Road in Marshall, NC, enabling staff, programs, and retail space to be housed under one roof to meet the growing needs of Madison County.
"It is exciting to begin our 20th year as a non-profit by taking such a huge step forward. CHC serves an average of 100 households annually, with demand continually rising. Finding a permanent home for CHC is not an option and is necessary in order to continue serving our community," said Chris Watson, CHC Program Director. "Some programs launching in 2022 require capacity - both physical and staff - that cannot be met in our current offices. The new facility will provide space for program expansion, much improved accessibility, new program opportunities, and increased operational and financial efficiencies."
The easily accessible 3600 square-foot building, formerly a restaurant, sits on nearly two acres in a highly visible location just off US Highway 25/70, offers 50 parking spaces, and includes three adjacent acres, creating potential for affordable housing options. Funding for the purchase is coming from: generous grants, direct public contribution through a "Home for Housing" capital campaign, CHC cash on-hand, and financing through United Federal Credit Union.
Moving ReClaim Madison Salvage & Thrift from its downtown Marshall location to this new location promises to enhance the shopping experience for its customers. "In just under three years, ReClaim Madison Salvage & Thrift has proven to be a popular first stop for many shoppers in Madison County and beyond looking for well-priced building materials, used furniture and appliances, and unique trinkets and treasures," said Laura Cheatham, ReClaim Madison Store Manager. "We are excited about having a new permanent home providing easy access for our customers, ample parking, a more visible location, and new ways to collaborate with Community Housing Coalition programs and staff."
A fundraising campaign launched in October to fund required renovations has been met with investment by generous individuals, businesses, and local organizations demonstrating wide support for this step in the evolution of CHC and its mission to provide healthy, safe and affordable housing in Madison County.
Renovations to the building will be an opportunity for CHC to leverage its extensive volunteer network, as well as local expertise and manpower from architect Jim Stephens, McDonald Structural Engineering, Every Angle Construction, and Engine House Design.
