LG Becomes Top Brand Losing Trade in Value for the First Time in Months, According to 40 Sources Listed on CompareMyMobile.com

Motorola have been knocked off the top spot as the brand losing value most quickly, according to fresh data from leading mobile phone recycling comparison site CompareMyMobile.com. LG saw a huge 28% dive in value across all devices to become the number one depreciating brand for the first time in months. The depreciation of Nokia devices has also seen an increase of 4.25%, climbing to 13.39% to almost knock Motorola off the number two spot.
There have also been huge changes in the list of top depreciating categories, according to site data, as Apple’s Mac and Macbook devices plummeted by 12.83% in value. This places them as the top category losing value most quickly with a total 20.48% drop. Laptops closely follow in second, losing 18.93% in value, while the phones category seem to be holding value well in comparison. Games consoles have plummeted back down, losing 18.54% in value, following an increase due to announcements of new game consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Samsung is continuing to climb in terms of trade-in market share – now holding 17.8% of the gadget trade in market. It’s eating into Apple’s share, which is now just 38.4%, down from 40.4% in June, according to CompareMyMobile data. This brings Samsung ever closer to overtaking BlackBerry to become the second top traded brand on the site – BlackBerry currently hold 18.6% of the trade-in market.
Phones continue to dominate the gadget trade-in market, with the mobile trade-in share increasing by 1.2% to hold 84.72%. The top traded phone continues to be Apple’s iPhone 4 16GB, a trend that the site expect to continue as strong rumours circulate about the iPhone 5S autumn release. Samsung’s Galaxy S2 i9100 and Galaxy S3 are the second and fourth most traded in devices respectively, following the release of the flagship Galaxy S4.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S4 is the seventh most traded-in Android device though, despite only being released a few months ago. The iPhone 5 was also in the list of top traded devices within months of its release, suggesting some disappointment with the device. This could also be suggested of the Galaxy S4 - issues with storage were widely reported.
However, the sales of these devices were huge – it was recently announced that Samsung Galaxy S4 shipments reached 20 million within a couple of months, as Apple’s iPhone 5 reached this number within just 25 days. CompareMyMobile would expect to see higher trade-ins of devices that sold in this large a volume. The site predicts that Samsung will continue to grow in terms of trade-in market share, with Apple biting back on the release of the much-awaited iPhone 5S.
