ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Almost half of children in the United States have experienced one or more types of trauma, making an understanding of trauma and how to work with children impacted by trauma essential for educators and administrators. To support teachers and administrators in recognizing and reaching the children of trauma, Conscious Discipline will host the sold-out Building Trauma Sensitive Classrooms and Schools event on March 1-2 at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O'Hare.
Dr. Becky Bailey, the founder of Conscious Discipline, said, "Trauma is epidemic in our society. It is estimated that 70% of people in the United States have experienced trauma in their lives, translating to 224 million hurting children and adults. The Building Trauma-Sensitive Classrooms and Schools event is designed to equip educators and administrators with specific, evidence-based strategies to reach relationship-resistant children, create an inclusive culture of compassion and help traumatized children learn in school."
Event attendees will develop an understanding of trauma and how trauma impacts the brain, behavior and learning, then learn seven strategies for shifting a defensive brain to an engaging brain. Adults will learn the essential skills of managing their own trauma and increasing their own well-being in order to reach relationship-resistant children.
The event, led by Dr. Becky Bailey and Conscious Discipline Master Instructor Kim Jackson, will also focus on creating a safe, inclusive educational environment that embraces marginalized children and promotes growth, healing and resilience for children of all ages.
Dr. Bailey said, "This event will take a deeper look into trauma in children and the impact it has on quality of life as these children develop and grow into adulthood. Traumatized children are focused on safety, survival and defending against the world, not on connecting with others or learning to read and write. The goal is to build classrooms and schools that are prepared to reach and teach children of trauma, changing their life trajectory for the better."
