COP26 for All: PechaKucha and Daydream Believers Collaborate to Inspire Climate Action Among Young Change Makers
As COP26 draws world leaders to Glasgow, #GetOnWithIt campaign motivates students and their communities to fight for a healthier planet with virtual and live event presentations
CHICAGO AND GLASGOW, Scotland, Oct. 28, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PechaKucha, a social storytelling platform, and Daydream Believers, a group of innovation-minded educators, employers and students, have teamed up to inspire climate action as global leaders and policymakers gather for the COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference to discuss the planet's most pressing environmental challenges.
Daydream Believers has launched a campaign to motivate students, educators and young change-makers to tell policymakers to finally #GetOnWithIt. Participants are encouraged to propose their creative climate solutions in 20 slides or less using PechaKucha's concise show-and-tell format. The #GetOnWithIt campaign and Action Pack were created by Edinburgh-based creative agency Whitespace, an isobar company part of global advertising network, dentsu international. Chris Davey, Creative Director, is a founder member of Daydream Believers.
These presentations, among others, will be featured at free daily events running in tandem with COP26 held at Strath Union, on the campus of The University of Strathclyde.
Presentations will be hosted by After The Pandemic, an accelerator committed to using creativity to look beyond the pandemic and curators of some of COP26's most engaging programming. Presenters and performers at "After the Pandemic @ COP26" will include social innovators, global climate experts, indigenous artists, and those affected by the crisis at a local community level.
"We've created a space for everyone to participate in COP26, beyond just world leaders," said Helena Good, Daydream Believers' Design Lecturer and Master Dreamer. "Our virtual campaign and live events at The University of Strathclyde give us all a chance to take part in the climate conversation and drive positive change – together for our planet."
In Scotland, young learners at Stow Primary and graduate students at Napier University Edinburgh have participated in the #GetOnWithIt Challenge. These engagements are made possible with help from partner organizations such as:
- LEGO® Group, whose sustainability team brings its "Build the Change" program to COP26, showcasing how children's creativity can provide simple solutions to complex environmental issues and change the world for the better.
- Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a charity working with business, governments & cities, and academic institutions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy - a new economic system that's better for people and the environment.
Held in Glasgow, Scotland, COP26 runs from October 31 through November 12. Leaders from PechaKucha and Daydream Believers will be attending and speaking at COP26. About After the Pandemic
After the Pandemic was launched on May 8th, 2020 by Lateral North, Fergus Bruce, and Laura McHard. It asked how communities could both generate ideas and initiate positive change during the Covid-19 Pandemic - how to develop new places and spaces; new systems and new products; and how to tackle both immediate problems and intersecting global challenges like the climate emergency. The initiative's original aim was to use creativity to 'rethink, reimagine, and redesign' Glasgow, Scotland. It now offers an open, supportive platform for people to share ideas for how their communities might 'build back better' from this very specific moment in time - to make our spaces and places to be greener, more sustainable, and more resilient. https://afterthepandemic.scot/
