"Code Red" climate emergency claims are not credible and are countered by CLINTEL's World Climate Declaration says Friends of Science Society. Bloomberg claims Canada has a 'dirty secret' on climate, debunked by Samuel Furfari; 'Climate Colonialism' denounced by Friends of Science.
CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 27, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As reported by the Daily Mail, Oct. 26, 2022, a group of scientists led by William Ripple, claim there is a "Code Red" climate emergency, a position that is not supported by the CLINTEL World Climate Declaration, nor by the recent CLINTEL Message to the Public, says Friends of Science Society. Likewise, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR6 report of August 2021, by the Physical Science Working Group I, only mentions the word 'crisis' and 'emergency' once in reference to media coverage.
On Oct. 20, 2022, Bloomberg claimed that "Canada has a big dirty secret" because emissions had increased, despite Prime Minister Trudeau's claims of being a climate leader. In an article originally published in French in Atlantico, republished in translation as "This ugly (big) secret that very progressive Canada is trying to make people forget," EU energy expert Samuel Furfari debunks that notion, noting that life is energy and Canada is a vast, cold country. The 'dirty secret' is not only that emissions increased, despite draconian carbon taxes and regulations, but that Canada's astounding immigration rates mean climate targets cannot be met.
Furfari writes: "Justin Trudeau doesn't have a magic wand to lower CO₂ emissions. No one has it and so the plans he put in place couldn't work. This is evident everywhere, as the figures just quoted show."
Furfari explains that Canada's emissions did rise 20% from 1992 to last year (2021) and adds: "CO₂ emissions from non-OECD countries increased by 134%; China's emissions soared by 311%, with the growth record being held by Vietnam which produced 1300% more CO₂. Africa has only increased its CO₂ emissions "by 93%" because it is unfortunately lagging behind in the development race. So, the Canadian government is a good student compared to the others."
Friends of Science Society challenges a recent climate conference in Canada where Prime Minister Trudeau spoke effusively of his climate leadership, in this presentation "Too Far. Too Fast. NetZero2030 in Focus."
Friends of Science says NetZero targets are unnecessary; we do have time. There is no climate emergency if the implausible scenarios known as "RCP 8.5 and 6" are removed from the discussion. The 'RCP' refers to Representative Concentration Pathways - computer simulations forecasting the warming effect of carbon dioxide concentrations.
In his recent video presentation to the National Association of Scholars, Roger Pielke, Jr., explains that RCP 8.5 and 6 scenarios, the most cited in climate research, are implausible.
Friends of Science Society says 'climate colonialism' is the new method of imposing domination on developing nations and takes Naomi Klein to task in a video presentation on the Arab Spring. According to research by NECSI, US food-to-fuel climate policies sparked the Arab Spring by doubled food prices, leading to civil unrest.
The flurry of excited headlines in advance of COP27, like a recent commentary in "The Lancet" wherein doctors claim 'fossil fuel addiction' is killing people, shows there are fears that the climate catastrophe narrative is collapsing, says Friends of Science. Modern medicine cannot exist without copious amounts of fossil fuels for reliable electricity, the means to manufacture medical equipment and medicines, and the product stream, like sterile plastics. This argument is outlined in Friends of Science 2015 report "Burning Questions."
Robert Lyman, Canadian energy economist, former public servant and diplomat writes of COP27's futility in the face of the global energy crisis, but how the 'show must go on'. Much of COP27 is to center on finance, not science. Lyman notes: "Prior to COP26, the developing countries submitted a report that purported to show that the funding obligations of the wealthier countries should be increased to at least $1.3 trillion per year from 2025 to 2030." That's up substantially from the "Green Climate Fund", originally set to be $100 bn/yr.
For those hoping a technological miracle will save us, Robert Lyman's new report "Technology Dreaming" provides a realistic assessment of the challenges and barriers to the adoption of new technologies, with or without government support.
About
Friends of Science Society is an independent group of earth, atmospheric and solar scientists, engineers, and citizens that is celebrating its 20th year of offering climate science insights. After a thorough review of a broad spectrum of literature on climate change, Friends of Science Society has concluded that the sun is the main driver of climate change, not carbon dioxide (CO2).
