NEW YORK, May 3, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Early education leader Corlears School announced today it is holding next week a free, online event to help parents understand its identity and social justice curriculum designed to support anti-racism as a core value of the school.
"Identity & Social Justice in the Elementary Years" will be held Thursday, May 13, 12:30-1:30pm ET. It is designed for current and prospective parents of children aged 1-10.
The Zoom event will be led by Corlears' Mansi Vasa, Director of Equity, Inclusion and Community Life. She will be in conversation with Dora Rice, 3rd-5th grade teacher at Corlears. They will unpack how Corlears' identity and social justice curriculum unfolds across the ages from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Participants will walk away with an understanding of how the social justice themes of identity, diversity, justice, and action are a significant piece of the educational experience at Corlears, and how Corlears' curriculum overview has been developed to match the developmental readiness of students at each age level.
"At the root of it, our identity and social justice curriculum is about humanity," said Vasa. "We believe that schools are spaces that can foster empathy building around all human experiences, empowering young children to seek justice so all people can be their complete and authentic selves."
Zoom information is provided in the event registration confirmation. Please register here: https://www.corlearsschool.org/campus-visits.
"Join us to fully examine how your child will benefit from a school and curriculum that supports positive identity development for all community members and allows our graduates to become leaders in their communities," said Corlears Head of School David Egolf. "Corlears has been committed to equity and inclusion in our curriculum, institutional practices, and governing policies for decades and we aim to continue to lead the way in this area."
About Corlears School
Founded in 1968, Corlears School is one of the few schools in New York City that focuses exclusively on the early years of education (age 2-5th grade) — and we always have. In our five decades of experience, we've come to understand that these early years are the most crucial formative years for every child. They set a foundation of learning and confidence for everything to come. We specialize in guiding this impressionable age group, because the start of your child's academic life should be nothing short of exceptional.
Corlears is a private, neighborhood school for the entire city that offers a solid academic foundation and a vibrant, inclusive community for curious young minds ages 2-10.
