WAGGAMAN, La., Oct. 28, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Cornerstone Chemical Company, a New Orleans area based chemical manufacturing company, awarded scholarships to ten students seeking bachelor's degrees in STEM-related fields. Each student received $1,000 in scholarship funds. Cornerstone also honored five high school students who attended the Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS) this summer at Louisiana State University.
Dr. James Gray, superintendent of Jefferson Parish Public Schools, said, "I'm excited about the Cornerstone's scholarship programs. Cornerstone's commitment to investing in our children, our youngest citizens, helps move our district forward and advance our community as a whole."
Each of the ten students receiving the scholarship is either from the Greater New Orleans region, attending an accredited Louisiana university or a child of a Cornerstone employee. All recipients are enrolled at their universities to earn a STEM-related degree. The applicants were evaluated on their academic excellence and involvement within their communities and schools. Amongst the scholarships distributed, five of the recipients are children of Cornerstone employees, reinforcing our support of our team and their families' success today and into the future. The scholarship is one of many ways Cornerstone supports the New Orleans community.
Cornerstone sponsored five local high school students to attend LYS, a weeklong summer leadership camp at LSU in Baton Rouge. LYS seeks to immerse young adults into leadership exercises and events to help build Louisiana's future leaders. The seminar is attended by high school juniors and seniors from all around Louisiana.
