EL SEGUNDA, Calif., Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Corra Group sees challenges this year for employers looking to staff for the holiday season. As the El Segundo, California headquarter background checking service prepares for the seasonal holiday hiring, it cautions its clients to get an early start with the hiring process.
"Corra Group has seen a significant increase in employment screening, this past year," said Corra Group Co-Founder Nick Gustavson. "As such, we can see that the job pool is substantially less competitive than it has been in recent years. Unemployment statistics reflect fewer people are looking for work, which adds pressure for employers seeking temporary help for seasonal work.
"A few years ago, it was much easier to find qualified job applicants who had decent skill sets and no worrisome criminal records who in need of work were happy to accept the temporary seasonal employment," said Gustavson. "This is not the case so much as employers are now competing for the more qualified candidates who can afford to be more selective in their job searches."
Gustavson offered that since the potential applicants in the job poor are far less than in seasons past, it is advisable that employers apply careful scrutiny to their applicants. He noted that a more comprehensive package of background checks is in order to weed out the employment candidates who even in a robust economy are having difficulty finding work.
"There are good people, qualified people out there who are not working," said Gustavson. "Many would still be happy to have the opportunity to make extra bucks over the holiday season. But find the right fit can be a challenge. It is best to run a comprehensive list of criminal records as part of your employment screening package.
"If the candidate will be driving for you, then it is vital to run their Motor Vehicle Driving Records as well," said Gustavson. "In most states, in a mere sixty seconds and employer can determine through the MVR report if the job applicant is qualified to be driving. Nobody wants to hire an employment candidate with a lousy driving record or who is driving on a suspended license. Insurance is a problem, as are the liability issues."
Gustavson pointed out that since the person is a temporary hire, the inclination is for the employer to conduct a more limited range of background checks for the seasonal employment screening process.
"Background checks are relatively cheap," said Gustavson. "Liability issues are far more expensive. In the seasonal rush to hire temporary staff, employers can be hasty. But as we say at Corra Group, 'check them out before you hire."
