Crimson Cup Welcomes Coffee in the Valley Coffee Shop in Valley City, Ohio
Coffee in the Valley coffee shop in Valley City, Ohio has joined the group of independent coffee shops, cafes and bakeries supported by award-winning coffee roaster Crimson Cup Coffee and Tea. Owners Stephanie and Sean Miller learned how to open a coffee shop through the 7 Steps to Success coffee shop franchise alternative program.
COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea recently welcomed Coffee in the Valley to the group of independent coffee businesses it supports in 37 states. The shop at 6663 Center Road in Valley City, Ohio held its grand opening in August.
"We're excited to welcome Owners Stephanie and Sean Miller to Crimson Cup," said Founder and President Greg Ubert. "We love helping entrepreneurs achieve their dreams of opening an independent coffee shop!"
The idea for Coffee in the Valley began several years ago as a 'someday' dream, according to Stephanie. "I am an elementary teacher and my husband is an accountant. How did this lead to a coffee shop?"
While walking through Valley City one evening, the couple noticed a building for sale. It was a former bank, with a drive-thru lane.
"We joked around about buying the bank," Stephanie said. "Little did we know, a few short months later we would be on our way to opening Coffee in the Valley!"
To learn how to achieve their "someday dream," the couple turned to Crimson Cup and its 7 Steps to Success coffee shop franchise alternative program.
Based on Ubert's book, Seven Steps to Success in the Specialty Coffee Industry, the program has helped hundreds of independent coffee shops in 37 states to open and stay in business.
The Millers wanted to work with an Ohio company with a track record for helping independent coffee shops succeed. "We needed something in proximity, and somewhere that had a good product and good reviews," Sean said.
Of the 7 Steps, the couple found Step Five: Focus on Training, the most valuable. "We wouldn't have had a clue about where to start without equipment and drink training," Sean said.
Coffee in the Valley serves hot, iced and blended frozen specialty coffee drinks. The drink menu includes hot and iced tea, cold-brewed coffee, hot chocolate, fruit smoothies and other beverages. Food offerings include local pastries, donuts and gelato.
The shop's drive-thru window serves coffee lovers on the go. Inside, guests enjoy comfortable seating, with abundant natural lighting. An assortment of board games encourages guests to stay and relax.
Local groups meet in the former bank vault, which the Millers converted to a conference room.
Stephanie said Medina County coffee lovers rave about the coffee. "The drinks are very good and very consistent!" she said. "We often hear that we are better than the big coffee chains."
In just a few months, the shop has earned over 40 five-star reviews and 90-some recommendations on Facebook. "Picked up some coffees for the office and the coffee was so good that my coworkers are insisting we make this a regular morning coffee stop!" said one reviewer.
Crimson Cup coffee ranks among the best in the nation. The roaster won the 2019 Golden Bean Championship for Small Franchise/Chain roaster. In 2016, it was Roast magazine's Macro Roaster of the Year. Crimson Cup coffees also have won trophies and medals from the Good Food Awards and America's Best Espresso competition.
Asked to give advice to entrepreneurs who are thinking about opening a coffee shop, Sean said, "Plan well, keep up on your marketing, and prepare for a lot of obstacles."
