NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Award-winning children's book publisher Cuento de Luz, known for its dedication to creativity and authenticity, has announced two award wins from The Moonbeam Children's Book Awards for the titles The Color of Your Skin and Son.
Presented by Jenkins Group and Independent Publisher magazine, the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards aims to recognize and honor excellent children's books and their creators. Each submission is judged by an expert panel consisting of students, youth educators and book reviewers.
The Color of Your Skin, by Desirée Acevedo and illustrated by Silvia Álvarez, won the Silver award for Best Picture Book for children ages 4-8 years-old. The Color of Your Skin is a story that addresses and celebrates diversity among young children through the lens of a child. Vega and her colored pencils were inseparable, and together they created the most impressive drawings. While Vega was immersed in one of her new creations one day at school, her friend Alex asked Vega to lend him the skin-colored pencil. Vega and Alex discuss why there is such a color in the box while exploring the diversity of skin tones of people who are part of their daily lives. They discover that the "skin-color" can have a thousand shades and not just one.
Son, by Ariel Andrés Almada and illustrated by Sonja Wimmer, won the Gold award for best illustrator. The illustrator Sonja Wimmer had studied illustration at the Llotja Arts and Crafts School in Barcelona, now working as an illustrator for publishers and customers across the world. Sonja has received many awards for her beautiful work, including a Gold Medal in 2011 from Moonbeam Children's Awards for Best Illustrator for The Word Collector.
"We are honored to receive these renowned awards for our titles The Color of Your Skin and Son," says Ana Eulate, Founder and CEO of Cuento de Luz. "We strive to create unique and beautifully illustrated books that teach children valuable and universal lessons and these awards are a culmination of the hard work from the authors and illustrators of these titles."
